An IPMSM torque/weight and torque/moment of inertia ratio optimization

2014

In this paper, a torque/weight and torque/moment of inertia ratio optimization procedure for interior permanent magnet syncronous motors (IPMSMs) is presented. More in detail, a performance comparison between several IPMSM rotor structures has been carried out in order to determine the optimum geometry that can maximize the torque/weight and torque/moment of inertia ratios. A commercial motor, with known electrical and mechanical characteristics, has been taken as reference. Its rotor structure has been modified several times, obtaining different rotor geometries and, therefore, many IPMSM models with different electrical and mechanical characteristics. The finite element method (FEM) analy…

Analysis of Torque Developed in Axial Flux, Single-Phase Brushless DC Motor With Salient-Pole Stator

2004

An analysis of the torque developed by a single-phase disc brushless permanent magnet motor with salient-pole stator is presented. The machine represents a new family of brushless disc motors with the starting torque issue appearing to be most challenging. To produce a starting torque, the permanent magnets on one of the rotor discs are distributed nonuniformly. However, this significantly distorts a shape of the cogging torque versus rotational angle characteristic which, in turn, affects a waveform of the overall torque. A three-dimensional (3-D) finite-element model is used for the purpose of determining of angular variations of the torque developed by the motor. To find how the torque v…

Torque peak reduction and overload monitoring of induction motors in offshore drilling operations

2015

Current drivetrain design procedures for electric actuation systems operating in offshore conditions typically consider two major requirements: to provide sufficient steady-state and maximum motor torques. As a result of this, no information regarding the transient state (e.g. during motor acceleration) is utilized when selecting drivetrain components. This leads to potentially dangerous situations when motors undergo saturation in these regions due to too high dynamic loads. A common reason for this (apart from lack of information about transient state when designing a drivetrain) is applying trapezoidal reference motion profiles that cause discontinuities in system acceleration and infini…

Study on Improving the Functional Performance of Linear Motion Systems

2015

In the construction of high performance mechanical transmission with high precision in movement and positioning are used ball screws with preloaded double nuts. Among the factors that influence the performance of these transmissions are friction idle torque and friction load torque. Because, theoretically, the friction idle torque is influenced only by the preload force that loading, the double nut of the ball screw, was experimentally determined dependence of that torque of screw speed. Given the set was determined and exposed in the present work, the relation of dependency, idle friction torque, preload force and screw speed. From the relationship thus obtained can determine the instantan…
